Motorcycle tips

My K1200RS (A reliable workhorse, never complains)

  1. The brake pads on the K1200RS are relatively easy to change however a very useful tip (courtesy of my good friend Peter Leonard) is when you remove the caliper with the OLD pads still in place use a lever to push the cylinder back in the caliper until fully home (you will find that it is out some amount due to pad wear). This guarantees that when you fit the NEW pads the caliper will fit over the disc with ease.
  2. When laying up your motorcycle for any extended period of time it is very important to connect it to a trickle charger, a good trickle charger will simulate normal usage and keep the battery in tip top condition. Allowing the battery to drain and re-charging it can cause damage to the battery which will hamper the performance of the battery over time.
  3. The best cleanser I have ever used when washing my bike is good old Fairy liquid. it de-greases well and is not too severe on the metalwork.  Just make sure to thoroughly rinse the machine with water after washing.  Leaving detergent on the bike can speed up the degradation of rubber seals etc.
